May is Asian Heritage Month...Busy Time for Luaus in the Washington DC, Maryland and Virginia area. A great way to celebrate is hosting a Hawaiian Luau. DC Hippodrome dancers have been preparing all year for this busy time. It's the calling of summer barbecues, weddings, summer birthdays, festivals and one of the most exciting shows is DC Hippodrome's "Hawaiiana". Let us take you back to the glamorous hula era of the 1930's, introduce you to the mysterious Marquesas island, rediscover the people of Tokelau who now reside in New Zealand after their island was flooded and remains underwater, demonstrate dances of the majestic and noble Maori tribe from New Zealand, the proud Samoan warriors and the exciting Tahitian dances of otea and aparima. We'd like to sing you a song on the ukulele and spin some fire which will get the crowd screaming for more. We'll probably get Grandpa or Grandma on the stage with us or the birthday kid! And when it's over, you won't want it to be over, 60 minutes will feel like you stepped onto the sands of Waikiki as we journey through the islands. www.dchippodrome.org
